World War II papers, ca. 1943-1952.

Papers relating to Meyers' military service, inclding assignment records, naval dispatches, military identification sheets, and materials regarding a trip to Australia. Printed items include the SIGNAL, the Naval Training School yearbook; TETON DIARY, a scrapbook of photos; an information booklet for the Teton crew; a NAVY LOOKOUT MANUAL; and a map of Oceania and Australia. Also included is an account of the Battle of Leyte Gulf and a copy of Emperor Hirohito's speech on the Japanese surrender. Photographs are from the Naval Training School and the Pacific Theater. Artifacts include two decks of cards, "International Aircraft Silhouettes Spotter Cards" and "Seamanship Cards: Rules of the Road."

Meyers, Harry E. (Harry Eugene), 1914-

Born in Chicago, Meyers was a resident of Indianapolis. During World War II he served with the Navy in the Pacific Theater on the U.S.S. Cleveland and the U.S.S. Teton. As a communications officer, he sent the dispatch notifying U.S. Armed Forces that the Japanese surrender had been signed.
